Your journey as a woman in the cleaning industry
Since entering facilities management (FM) in 2014, my journey throughout this industry has been highly gratifying. As part of the executive leadership team for one of the region’s leading FM service providers, I am passionate about people’s career growth and development at Emrill. The most rewarding part of my role is being able to offer these
opportunities to help both women and men advance in their careers. Being part of a team that creates and fosters an inclusive and diverse environment to provide high-quality services to benefit the built environment around us is something I take great pride in.
Gender related challenges in your career
One of the main reasons I decided to pursue a career in FM is to lead the way in empowering women to be part of a traditionally male-dominated industry. Women in FM may face challenges, including gender bias and under-representation in leadership roles.
However, to lead a change for the better, Emrill ensures equal opportunities regardless of gender. Both women and men bring several unique skills and perspectives to the world of FM. By creating a work culture that encourages collaboration, knowledge-sharing and learning opportunities, we can all work together to surpass our clients’ needs and requirements and reshape our environments through FM service excellence.
Advice to young women who aspire to pursue a career in the cleaning industry
I advise women to make the most of all experiences, including working closely with their teams. Through engagement and collaboration, the benefits strong teamwork can bring are second to none. It’s essential to focus on continuous improvement and embrace all the learning and development opportunities available to you. Take every chance you can to speak up and share your ideas, and do not be afraid to make mistakes; this is how you can learn and improve in the future.
