Your journey as a woman in the cleaning industry
When I started working in the healthcare industry in operations, I have had a lot of challenges in managing people, patients, and their expectations. All these challenges have shaped me into the person I am today. Not a single day goes without learning. Everything boils down to understanding and engaging with people. Once that happens, rest everything else falls in place. I would say so far my journey has been filled with lots of learnings, failures and success and fulfillment.
Gender related challenges in your career
Women constitute for only less than 10% of the C-suite or management staff in healthcare organizations. As you move up the ladder, the gender related challenges become more evident. Things I did to overcome these challenges is that I always told myself that I am no different from anyone at the workplace, whether it is related to work, responsibilities, or the pay packets. I do not underestimate or overestimate my abilities because I am a woman nor do I expect any additional perks or unfair benefits because of my gender.
Advice to young women who aspire to pursue a career in the cleaning industry
Women are more empathetic and can understand people better than men. The whole healthcare and hospitality industry is about understanding your customers, patients and employees and engaging them with empathy. My advice to aspiring young women is to give yourself time to understand people, engage more and do not let anyone pull you down because you are a woman. Follow your dreams and the universe will make it happen.
