Looking back at 30+ years in housekeeping, it truly is the implementation and use of new technology, automation and digitalization that transform housekeeping into a modern and likeable department.

The machines and devices we use nowadays to accelerate work processes are really amazing. From the way we communicate to the way we operate, all is based on constantly evolving technologies.

Overall, technology has made housekeeping more efficient, accessible, and convenient, benefiting both housekeepers and guests.

For me it is of utmost importance that I keep myself informed about the newest technologies for housekeeping. Be it online training or sustainable cleaning supplies, cleaning machines or any gadgets which make work processes easier, it is important to know and to implement if it makes sense in terms of ROI and productivity.

The challenges you faced in your housekeeping career 

Perhaps the biggest challenge anyone has faced in housekeeping was the recent Pandemic. Apart from that, I have learned that one must always keep an adequate stock of anything and everything in order not to fall short of linens or guest supplies. Many times delivery dates are not being kept by our suppliers and we run out of one or the other thing. I would say any challenge is a learning process and we need to ensure to be better prepared in the future in order not to have these challenges anymore. 

Your advice to fellow housekeeping professionals

Train and promote from within your department. Grow your teams by constantly feeding them with knowledge and useful information and letting them know about what is new and trending in our industry. Every day is a school day, there is always something to learn which makes us smarter and better in what we do.
