Your impact on housekeeping
Atlantis being such a gigantic property it is, completely changed the view of Housekeeping Operation that I had experienced in the past. I have been able to impart my knowledge to the amazing team and to develop each one of them to be successful in achieving their dreams.
I was able to implement a lot of the leading technologies in the world, from automated minibars to some of the most technologically advanced cleaning equipment being used in the department.
I was able to do a complete facelift of Atlantis rooms, including the renovation and refurbishment of all 1544 guest rooms at Atlantis, The Palm.
Apart from the rooms, I was able to succeed in all the metrics of operation like Guest Satisfaction (93%), Colleague Engagement Survey (4/ 5), Quality Audits (92%), etc with flying colours.
The challenges you faced in your housekeeping career
One of the biggest challenges was getting the right team members, especially when we have more than 500 staff working in the department. The challenge is doubled when we have outsourced partners for many of the tasks. So, the transformation started from recruiting and training the people to play their roles.
For such a large property the challenges are equally large. From ensuring all the guest expectations are met when you have around 600 check-ins and check out every day, to managing the daily operation which is sustained without any drop in service quality, and all this while keeping the finances within the limits, is nothing short of being extraordinary.
Your advice to fellow housekeeping professionals
My key advice to all the fellow Housekeepers will be the following.
- Aim for the stars.
- Have a passion for what you do and believe in yourself and the team.
- Promote open dialogues!
- Keep learning.
- Failures are great teaching tools.
