Your impact on housekeeping

Like many hotels school students Housekeeping was NOT my first choice, the whole idea changed when I had my first-hand experience as industrial training & found my mentor Corporate EHK Ms. Laxmi who pushed us to the wall & made us understand what housekeeping is all about besides cleaning & upkeep, How they play a vital role Rooms Profitability & how they are responsible for almost hotel premises. Initially these things excited me & my passion with housekeeping has started.

The challenges you faced in your housekeeping career

Housekeepers always find a challenge to learn & discuss about housekeeping.  On the contrary, it's expected from them that they know everything with their magic wand. To bring housekeepers on a one platform where they can ideate - debate & celebrate housekeeping, I had formed Kuwait Housekeepers association in 2009 & Qatar Housekeepers association in 2013.  Seeing the success of these, we joined hands with other fraternities to form the Asian Housekeepers Association where housekeepers can clear their doubts or discuss a challenge in a better way & understanding.

Your advice to fellow housekeeping professionals

Get smart financially, talk with numbers & figures, ask questions when you are not sure. Have a mentor and network continuously. Stay in touch with previous colleagues and don’t burn your bridges, the hospitality world is small and you are sure to meet the same people later in your career. Always remember “A superior physical product is just a beginning & can be copied with an extra fizz but what cannot be duplicated is the superior service culture that emanates though OUR PEOPLE & SYSTEMS that we follow.”
