Your journey as a woman in the cleaning industry

This industry may be considered male-dominated, especially at the top, however I have had several opportunities to work in senior positions at prestigious hotels and for prominent property developers across different countries throughout my career.  I have worked with inspiring leaders, colleagues and mentors, all of whom have been instrumental to my success and knowledge.  Although at times I have been the only female in the boardroom, knowing that I am representing a woman’s perspective in a room full of men has made me even more resolute and has allowed me to take advantage of the knowledge and experience of my male counterparts.  

Often being the only woman in a discussion has also driven me to tap into my unique skills and talents, which has contributed greatly to my success.  Today, I am proud to work for one of the prominent property developers in the UAE.  Nakheel is a front runner in ensuring equal opportunities for women and developing future female leaders across the various sectors of the business.  We celebrate women, their creativity, contribution, leadership style and applaud their strength and tenacity as they create positive impacts on all levels.  

Gender related challenges in your career

Achieving diversity, equity and inclusivity is still a work in progress all over the world and in all industries, however it is evident that women across the globe are seizing every opportunity out there to meet their career and business goals. Just look at all the inspirational women in government, space exploration; in aviation, IT, construction, medical research, and sports; entrepreneurs; and many as homemakers and stay-at-home moms too!  A woman can achieve anything she sets her mind to, by following her heart and her passion from within, without any restrictions or attachments, while remaining positive and in the frequency of receiving.  

Advice to young women who aspire to pursue a career in the cleaning industry

Sometimes, it is our limiting beliefs, negative thoughts and conditioning that forms roadblocks in our journey to success, balance and abundance.  Focus on what you want to achieve; on the person you want to become; on being the highest version of yourself. Follow your dreams and follow your heart. Never take ‘No’ for an answer. Ask for help, be brave and have courage to dream even bigger. And always remember to inspire and assist others along the way. Pay it forward and pave the way for others.
