Clean Middle East Pulire Expo: Aiming to bridge the gap in the cleaning industry

“Though the Middle East is better positioned in terms of cleanliness and hygiene standards and practices when compared with other Asian majors such as India, there’s still a big gap between the need and the number of players in the region,” observes Jayaraman Nair, Chairman, Virtual Info Systems Pvt Ltd (VIS). Speaking to Clean Middle East, Nair said he was embarking on a mission to spread awareness on scientific cleaning practices and has chalked

out major plans for the Middle East region. With over a decade’s experience, VIS is an established organiser of specialised trade shows and publisher of industry specific premium vertical magazines in India. VIS is now organising the Clean Middle East Pulire (CMEP) Expo in collaboration with leading international event organisers in the cleaning industry Afidamp Servizi srl. The three day show will take place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) from November 27-29, 2012. Nair said: “We have long-term plans for the region. Starting with Dubai, we will work with various companies in the region to take the initiatives forward.” The company aims to cover the entire Middle East markets and is bringing its experience to the region ensuring synergy between these. “There should be constant inputs in the market and continuous improvements in technology. Though Dubai is considered as to Clean Middle East, Nair said he was embarking on a mission to spread awareness on scientific cleaning practices and has chalked out major plans for the Middle East region.

Starting with Dubai, we will work with various companies in the region to take the initiatives forward.”

The company aims to cover the entire Middle East markets and is bringing its experience to the region ensuring synergy between these. “There should be constant inputs in the market and continuous improvements in technology. Though Dubai is considered as one of the clean cities in the world, the government is planning to make it a world class city that is clean, hygienic and environment friendly. Organising a B2B show is a better way to showcase different brands and technologically advanced products at a single location. Machines, accessories and several applications are being displayed at the exhibition. Over 70 exhibitors are taking part in the event,” adds Nair. Elaborating on how different countries need different types of hygiene solutions, Nair said: “Dubai needs specific types of chemicals and solutions. Those that are being used in Europe might not be exactly suitable here. After studying and analysing the local market conditions, regionspecific products need to be introduced.” Nair and his team’s expectations are high on their debut in Dubai. “Expectations are always high and we work towards meeting these expectations. Our team has been working on this project for over 18 months. We are confident of achieving positive results,” stated Nair.

Consenting that the hygiene sector has not been much in focus and that the awareness on the sector is not high as compared to other segments, Nair further explained: “ The thought process is now changing. Everybody considers the hygiene aspect as an important one. We help in this change by creating awareness through our events. This will act as an ideal trigger for companies to adopt certain practices and maintain high standards in this sector.” When it comes assessing the market size, it is difficult as the products and players are vast and varied. “For instance, there are numerous chemical manufacturers in India and it’s difficult to assess their business volumes and size of the market. Products available are aplenty. There are many machines – industrial cleaners, street cleaners, etc, and various cleaning solutions. Everybody doesn’t deal in all products, so segment wise measurement is more important than that of the whole sector.” Shrugging off challenges in the industry, Nair said: “Challenges are like any growing baby that faces difficulties.

Till the time any growth consolidation happens, the market will be in fluid stage. Dubai and GCC markets are still open to a lot of new players and new technological applications. And there’s competition, the industry gains from that. In the process, more awareness would also take place. Comparatively, Dubai and GCC markets are more mature and better developed, but still there’s a lot of gap, which can be bridged through international trade shows and seminars. Being a B2B show, a footfall of 2,000 and above is considered to be very good. So definitely CMEP show will be a major one. Let’s see how it shapes up in the days to come.” The B2B show focuses mainly on business deals, networking, awareness, product launches, and helping international manufacturers find local distr ibutors. Hospi t a l i t y, pharma and hospital sectors are majorly contr ibuting to the growth of the cleaning and hygiene sector, while other segments lack sufficient a w a r e n e s s about cleaning practices. Companies engaged in all verticals, equipment/ tools, chemicals, facility management, hygiene solutions, laundry and waste and waste water treatment are participating. The ninth edition of Clean India show is also scheduled to take place in Bengaluru in December this year. Over 100 companies have confirmed their participation in exhibition in India. In a big country like India, the awareness about clean and hygiene is increasing rapidly. Another important feature at the Bengaluru show is a separate laundry pavilion. For the first time, seminar sessions on laundry have been scheduled parallel to the show, said Nair.
