Your journey as a woman in the cleaning industry

The journey so far has been incredible and challenging as well. Traditionally cleaning and hygiene has been a forte of women and I believe we can excel much more in this growing sector. While the world battled the pandemic, the role played by the commercial cleaning industry is priceless. We had been in the frontline, meeting customer requirements and ensuring a safe and sanitized environment, while everyone was working from home. It gives me immense pleasure that I could be a part of this industry in fighting the pandemic as well as continuing to provide products and services that will keep the premises safe from infections, which in turn leads to serving humanity.

Gender related challenges in your career

This industry has been male-dominant, though the trend is changing slowly with the evolution of modern technologies and smart systems. I believe gender related challenges are there in every industry and specifically in the cleaning industry which demands round the clock service, there could be some barriers for women. But in a city like Dubai, which is one of the safest in the world, one can easily overcome these challenges. Every woman should be confident of her abilities and  believe in herself which will help her to face any challenges. 

Advice to young women who aspire to pursue a career in the cleaning industry

The cleaning industry is one of the fastest growing industries with endless possibilities, especially in this part of the world, which is giving much priority to hygiene and hospitality. Thus, the people who make up this industry continue to be essential. With the technology advancements and automation of cleaning equipment and systems in place, this is a low lying fruit for women to excel, unlike the past which demands physical labor as well. The industry is embracing women and their authentic leadership qualities and sense of hygiene. As mentioned earlier, by serving in this industry you could make a difference to the people around you. There is nothing greater than being able to serve humanity with passion.
