Your journey as a woman in the cleaning industry
My journey in the cleaning industry has been incredible as I went from a trainee to a department manager at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Waterfront. I always felt valued and took every challenge as an adverse situation which made me stronger and more determined towards my goal. I came across a few individuals who were my role models – this kept me striving towards climbing my career. A balance with effective work-life, being a mother and doing multitasking effectively, building an amazing team was my best ever experience I had in this industry. It gives me immense pleasure when I see one of my team members growing in their career and handling things on their own. In my journey with IHG, Hyatt, Marriott and Radisson Hotel Group. I met numerous people and it was an incredible experience with each one. I learned a lot from them and I also shared my experience and advice with the people. This industry taught me to treat everyone equally and to listen to others to understand them. Everyone I meet on a daily basis (a guest, team member or suppliers) gives me confidence in their capability, creativity and generosity and I feel that’s what our Industry is made of.
Gender related challenges in your career
Yes, I did face gender related challenges throughout my journey. I was able to overcome this challenge by keeping my own confidence and with the YES I CAN spirit. Additionally, I also implemented what I learned from my role models such as my mother as well as the women leaders who came across throughout my journey.
