Forbes Travel Guide has looked at the modern hospitality landscape report has found that 99 percent of hotels across the globe have installed hand sanitisers on their premises since the beginning of the pandemic. That is according to the Forbes Travel Guide, which from October 22 and November 6 this year, conducted a global survey among 468 hoteliers.
It found that almost all surveyed hoteliers have worked to encourage social distancing (91 percent) and that almost three quarters had installed social distancing markers (74 percent). Other common precautions against the virus have been the installation of physical dividers, enhanced air filtration systems, UV cleaning stations, the removal of mini bars, and the installation of automatic doors.
Despite its common usage in the UAE, only 35 percent of global hoteliers have been mandating temperature checks. Less than one percent have deployed cleaning robots in their hotels.
Forbes also mentioned the following as additional hygiene measures: Luggage disinfection machines, antiviral films applied to door handles, screening stations/extra security checkpoints to enhance health screening, COVID-19 signage, increased seating capacity outdoors, QR menu codes, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) stations, optional Roomba vacuuming in guest rooms, and complimentary hygiene/mask kits in guest rooms.
The world’s largest hotel groups all quickly worked to deploy stringent hygiene measures this year. The likes of Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Radisson and Accor all joined forces with expert-driven medical and hygiene authorities to elevate their standards. Here in the UAE, the majority of hotels have some form of third-party hygiene certification, whether it’s Bureau Veritas, the GBAC STAR or another service.
