Dubai has introduced new automated technology that cuts the time required to test the quality of oils and fats from two hours to just two minutes, while increasing daily testing capacity by 900 per cent.
Dubai Central Laboratory, part of Dubai Municipality, said the technology increases capacity from six samples to 60 per day and enables accurate and reliable analysis without human intervention, strengthening the emirate’s food control capabilities.
The technology has been introduced by Dubai Central Laboratory to accelerate testing of the quality of oils and fats.
Testing that previously required two hours can now be completed in two minutes, with results generated automatically.
The technology supports the early detection of indicators related to the oxidation and quality of oils and fats during manufacturing and storage.
Dubai cuts oil and fat testing to two minutes
Dubai Municipality said this strengthens its proactive food control capabilities and supports the safety and quality of food products available across the emirate. The technology also significantly increases the number of samples Dubai Central Laboratory can process.
Daily testing capacity has risen by 900 per cent, from six samples to 60 samples per day. The increase allows the laboratory to process a greater volume of samples more efficiently while maintaining the accuracy and reliability of its analysis.
Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department at the Municipality, said the introduction of the technology represents an important step in the continued development of the Laboratory’s testing capabilities through advanced scientific and technological solutions.
She said: “The adoption of this technology enhances the efficiency and speed of laboratory testing while maintaining the accuracy and reliability required to support food safety and consumer protection. By increasing testing capacity and enabling faster analysis, we can strengthen proactive regulatory processes and respond more efficiently to developments within the food manufacturing sector.
“The technology will also contribute to strengthening consumer confidence in the safety and quality of food products available in Dubai. It enables regulatory authorities to identify potential quality issues more rapidly and helps ensure that products comply with approved international standards and specifications.”
Technology eliminates chemical consumables used in conventional testing
The automated system also supports Dubai Central Laboratory’s adoption of green laboratory practices.
The technology eliminates the chemical consumables required by conventional testing methods, improving resource efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of laboratory operations.
According to the Municipality, the change maintains the accuracy and reliability of results and compliance with international standards.
Dubai Central Laboratory continues to develop its technical capabilities and laboratory services through the adoption of advanced technologies designed to improve accuracy, efficiency and sustainability.
The Municipality said these efforts support consumer protection and contribute to ensuring the quality and safety of products available in the emirate.
