Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province Municipality, represented by Al Rafiah Municipality, carried out 592 regulatory and environmental health inspections during the third quarter of 2026, reinforcing its commitment to food safety, public health and municipal compliance.
The inspection campaign included 403 visits to commercial establishments, resulting in the identification of 48 violations and the issuance of 34 warnings to businesses failing to comply with municipal regulations and health requirements. An additional 189 inspections focused on environmental sanitation and hygiene standards.
The initiative, supported by the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight, protect consumers and improve service quality across the region.
Faisal bin Saeed Al-Zahrani, Director General of Media and Official Spokesperson for the Eastern Province Municipality, explained that the inspections are part of an integrated monitoring framework designed to ensure commercial establishments adhere to municipal and public health regulations.
A key focus of the campaign was food hygiene and safety. Inspection teams assessed food products, verified labelling information and expiration dates, and monitored hygiene compliance in facilities involved in food preparation, handling and distribution.
These measures aim to minimise public health risks, encourage responsible hygiene practices and ensure safer commercial environments for consumers.
Al-Zahrani reiterated that the municipality will continue strengthening its field inspection activities and addressing violations in accordance with established regulations. Alongside enforcement measures, authorities will also prioritise awareness and guidance initiatives to help businesses improve compliance with municipal and hygiene standards.
The campaign reflects Saudi Arabia's broader efforts to enhance environmental hygiene, strengthen food safety oversight and improve the quality of municipal services in line with the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing's objectives.
