Our facility & services

Modern Laundry was established in Ras Al Khaimah in 1972 as a service provider in the laundry business with a capacity of 3.5 tons a day. A pioneer in the sector, the company has one of the oldest and largest facilities in Ras Al Khaimah and the Northern Emirates with all modern laundry equipment from wet to dry processes, carpet and sofa shampoo with most of the processes being hand finished. The second factory, with a capacity of 2.5 tons per day, is located in Sharjah and caters to Dubai, Ajman and Sharjah customers. Our main focus is on retail outlets and we have over 25 of them around the emirates. An important part of this programme is our most efficient home pick and delivery service for retail customers. Our workforce includes over 200 people in both factories, with our marketing team conducting regular field visits to attend the needs of our customers and receive feedback.

The basic laundry process has not changed much and is similar to any home system. But today, apart from clothes, Modern Laundry sees a high turnaround of linen and table cloth; as part of our home services, hundreds of carpets are also cleaned every month, with the best service offered in the portable carpet and sofa wet and dry cleaning. Our success is the result of team effort, with the support and the guidance of the Managing Director. In order to overcome obstacles and to sustain and manage a company’s reputation there is a need to have a clear vision that combines commercial targets and the company’s value and relationship. In this regard, Modern laundry has worked hard to put systems and procedures in place. 

Our ISO recognition

Modern Laundry has received the ISO 9001-2008 certification, which is the standard for quality management system that specifies the systems and procedures regarding customer care and service. For improved performance, we train our employees and conduct safety awareness programmes.

Quality

Our washing and final processing quality is of very high standard with continuous improvement in all aspects. Our quality controllers are stationed at wet, dry and finishing processes to detect the defective garments and send them back for reprocessing. The chemicals we use to remove spots and various kinds of stains are imported from the USA and Europe and we have installed the latest machinery including three dry cleaning machines from Europe. Our turnover time starts from 12 hours to a maximum of 24 hours. We have about 15 outlets in Ras Al Khaimah, five in Sharjah, one each in Dubai, Ajman and Khorfakkan, and in addition, a few pickup points are under development. We have a fleet of delivery vehicles that can reach these destinations within 30 minutes.  Another critical element in the operations is our service quality, particularly with regard to health service linen which has strict quality and hygiene requirements, and we constantly review laundering processes to meet and exceed these quality standards. Modern Laundry is always conscious of the quality and service flexibility we provide to our customers, as there is no shortcut to any of the laundering processes. That’s the secret of our success today.

Customer service

One of the challenges we face in our laundry business is traffic congestion. If we are scheduled to receive linen for washing at 8.30 am but receive it much later due to traffic congestion, our customers still expect it back at the scheduled time. In such cases, sometimes we allocate two vehicles as a backup. In fact, the laundry service provider has to be ready always, even late at night, to counter the increase in work schedule to keep our customers happy. We believe that our success is due to customer support, and their commitment and faith in Modern Laundry.

In-house training

Our experienced team is drawn mostly from commercial laundry backgrounds, and our in-house laundry expert trains all the employees, right from handling machines to chemical usages. Weekly and monthly training are given top priority in order to keep our commitment to the ISO 9001-2008 for QMS. We plan to send eight of our leading team members in two batches to London for further training.
