Holy Makkah Municipality removed more than 5,000 tons of waste from Arafat during Hajj 1447 AH as part of extensive cleanliness and environmental health operations in the holy sites.

According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the waste removed from Arafat was equivalent to the loads of more than 330 large transport trucks during one of the biggest sanitation drives carried out during the Hajj season.

The municipality intensified field operations through specialized teams, heavy machinery and rapid cleaning units to maintain cleanliness around pilgrims’ camps, roads and pedestrian routes.

SPA told APP that nearly 8,000 waste containers had been distributed across different locations in Arafat to improve waste collection and disposal efficiency during the movement of millions of pilgrims.

Authorities said cleaning, washing and sterilization operations continued around the clock, particularly in high-density areas witnessing heavy pilgrim movement.

Inspection teams also carried out extensive monitoring of catering kitchens and commercial establishments to ensure food safety standards and compliance with health regulations during the Hajj season.
