From Housekeeping to Learning & Development: A Journey of Consistency and Partnership

With over two decades of experience in housekeeping and room operations, spanning from the role of an attendant to that of an executive housekeeper, I have come to one clear realisation: hygiene and cleanliness are absolutely non-negotiable. These are the pillars upon which we build trust with our guests and consumers. However, while our commitment to cleanliness must remain steadfast, the manner in which we deliver this promise is ever-evolving. Housekeeping teams are adapting to technological advancements, new cleaning products, and shifting expectations. While the way we work may change, the consistency of our service cannot.

As I transitioned into a new role within Learning & Development, I gained a deeper appreciation for the broader scope of support required to ensure consistency across our teams. In this new capacity, I recognised my role as a partner—one who not only provides guidance but actively supports housekeeping professionals in achieving the highest standards of service. My mission is to empower practitioners to deliver on the promise of cleanliness every single time.

In 2024, I launched the theme of the “Year of Partnership” within our business unit, with the aim of identifying where our teams currently stand, where they aspire to go, and most importantly, how we can address the gaps that exist. It is not merely about creating solutions; it is about standing alongside our teams, understanding their challenges, and providing constructive, actionable feedback that leads to tangible improvements.

One of the cornerstones of this initiative is the development of targeted training programmes. By analysing data and identifying recurring issues and trends, we are better equipped to address the gaps that impact the consistency of our service. Training is not a one-off event; it is a continuous process of feedback, learning, and refinement.

A key element of this process is the power of asking better questions. By engaging in thoughtful, strategic dialogue with team members, we uncover the root causes of issues and develop solutions that lead to more efficient and effective operations. Through better questions, we not only address challenges but also create a path forward that drives performance and delivers consistent results.

As a luxury brand that aims to be an influential leader in hospitality, we promise to elevate and enrich every detail and every moment. The consistency in providing clean spaces, coupled with an unmatched guest experience, remains our top priority.

As we continue to evolve, the synergy between housekeeping and learning & development will play a critical role in achieving our targets and ensuring that the standards of cleanliness remain unwavering. Together, we will continue to adapt, innovate, and deliver exceptional results.

Are you ready to rethink your approach to cleanliness and guest experience? How will you elevate your team's impact to create lasting impressions?
