Gelair patented products were designed by bio-chemists and micro-biologists to provide the simplest yet most effective means of controlling disease-carrying microbial contaminants such as mould, yeast and bacteria, which build up in air conditioning systems. This problem is most pronounced in hot and humid environments like that of the Middle East region.
People in such regions are most familiar with the growth of mould especially in the bathrooms. Even with the best filters, regular maintenance and cleaning of the duct and the air handling units (AHU), air conditioning systems still remain breeding grounds for mould and bacteria. An odour emanating from the air conditioning supply vents evidences the presence of mould.
The Gelair products prevent exponential microbial growth, which can otherwise create the risk of diseases; immunological disorders; allergies as well as the discomfort of fatigue, headaches, tearful eyes and a running nose.

What exactly is Gelair?
Gelair ABs (Air-conditioning Blocks) is a formulation of the highest quality Australian tea tree oil in a biodegradable gel which slowly releases the essential oil into the air while the air-conditioning system operates. This is a natural, biodegradable gel which contains 10% pure Australian tea tree oil in a gel base made from seaweed.
Gelair Air-conditioning Blocks are used in Air Handling Units (AHUs) of the air conditioning systems. They come in 4 sizes to match the capacity of the Air Handling Units:
• AB0.5 = 0.5 litre block (supplied in boxes of 24)
• AB1.0 = 1.0 litre block (supplied in boxes of 10)
• AB2.0 = 2.0 litre block (supplied in boxes of 8)
• AB4.0 = 4.0 litre block (supplied in boxes of 3)
Gelair Solution is a liquid which can be used in spray bottles to clean cooling coils in air-
conditioning systems as well as surfaces where there is likely to be growth of mould and
bacteria. The coils also collect dust which provides a food source for the mould and bacteria. The Gelair Solution is formulated to be both a sterilizing solution as well as a cleaning solution. Its major application is for sterilizing cooling coils and is formulated so that it is viscous and will stay in contact with a non-horizontal surface for a period of time.
Gelair Solution comes in 2 sizes:
• GS20 - 20 litre Plastic Drum
• GS1 - 1.0 litre Spray Bottle
Humidity and its ill effects
The cleanliness of the air conditioning systems in the spaces we live and work plays a crucial role in our lives. Air cleanliness is adversely affected by high dust loadings, poor ventilation and biological contaminants such as mould, yeast and bacteria. Many common moulds and yeasts can produce allergenic health effects as well as unpleasant odours.
All mould and yeast spores should be regarded as potentially allergenic. Repeated exposure to these can lead to sensitization and produce both acute (short term) or chronic (long term) symptoms. Acute symptoms can include chills, fever and generally a feeling of being unwell while chronic effects can cause degenerative changes in the respiratory tract which can lead to obstruction of the airway. Such patients become breathless after exertion and cough constantly. The chronic stage may be progressive and eventually cause the serious disease of emphysema.
The World Health Organisation has recognised sick building syndrome (SBS) for nearly 20 years. Between 10 - 50% of people who work in fully air-conditioned offices experience a range of non-specific symptoms, including eye and upper respiratory irritation, which can be caused by mould and bacteria.
To avoid diseases and annoying symptoms it is important that there is good ventilation with fresh air. Air-conditioning filters trap most large particulate material - skin and hair particles, smoke residue, dust, etc. However, without regular cleaning, filters become overloaded and ducts become breeding grounds for microbial contamination. Further, hot and/or humid environments produce ideal breeding environments for mould and bacteria.
Gelair provides the solution
Gelair works by releasing tea tree oil into the air through the air-conditioning system. The high flow of air over the surface of the blocks in the air handling unit is the secret to its success. The tea tree oil comes in contact with infecting organisms in the air conditioning system and attacks them either in the vapour form or minute droplets.
Tea tree oil is a broad spectrum anti-microbial and anti-fungal agent. The constant release of minute doses of tea tree oil over an extended period acts as a control for mould, yeast and bacteria.
In ducted air conditioning systems, dust and water droplets from the cooling coils tend to impact the same spot within the ducting, allowing mould and bacteria to grow. The Gelair tea tree droplets also impinge in these parts of the air conditioning system providing ideal control over the mould and bacteria. The regular replacement of Gelair ABs stops the re-occurrence of these contaminants.

Some safety issues
Gelair Air-conditioning Blocks (Gelair ABs) and Gelair Solution are made from biodegradable highest grade tea tree oil, gelling agent, surfactants and water. The ABs are formulated into a thermo-reversible solid water-based gel.
Over the initial 24-hour period, Gelair ABs passively release 10-45 micrograms of tea tree oil per cubic metre of air from the air-conditioning system. There is no need for high pressure bottles, adjustments or potential massive release of tea tree oil.
Independent laboratory testing has shown that Gelair ABs add no more than 45 micrograms/cubic metre of VOCs with its first 24 hours of insertion into an air conditioning system. This airborne concentration of tea tree oil does not cause health effects, but controls mould and bacteria only.
Gelair offerings are absolutely environment-friendly and with the help of tea tree oil products eradicate mould, bacteria and viruses.
