Originally, non-polished marble and other stone tiles were used to lay floors because they work cheap, quite long lasting and maintenance was in no way a challenge. All you needed was to sweep and mop up the floor – and that was it. However, times have changed and so have the utilization and maintenance needs and procedures, respectivly.
Today, we all need expensive marble floors glazing like glass. The maintenance process involves polishing the marble when it etches; impregnating it if it’s spalling; and pauliticing it, if stained. This, in the long run, has always landed housekeepers into non-feasible high priced affairs to maintain such floors.
In this issue, Ahmed Tatyana, the Executive housekeeper of Grand Hyatt Hotel, tells us about the Twister diamond Pad, which she believes is a cost-effective and time saving solution to clean, polish and maintain different stone-tiled floors. Read on.
As an Executive Housekeeper how do you think cleaning solutions have revolved?
Well, I have witnessed quite a number of cleaning hurdles and many solutions have come in the market from different manufacturers. But I think there has always been a solution for every cleaning mystery.
Efficiency or budget: What should be prioritized when selecting a floor maintenance solution?
The solution has to be time-saving in the first place, efficient and cost-effective. In regard to your marble and other stone floors,
what cleaning solution have you employed to suit the above criteria?
We all know how marble is a beautiful yet difficult stone to polish and maintain. For many years, marble polishing experts have been our regular visitors (housekeeping department), and this has always been a strain on my budget.
One and half years back I was introduced to the Twister Diamond pads which were said to clean, maintain and buff my floor types including marble. After an initial assessment (which any housekeeper would do), I decided to take it on. The results were awesome. Tell us more about the Twister Diamond pads and what makes them desirable for you.
Twister is a revolutionary multi-purpose cleaning system for cleaning, shining, and protection of marble and other stone-tiled floors. This product cleans and protects almost all common floor surfaces while bringing out their natural shine. It does not need wax layers or polish.
How, when and where do you use it?
We use it on high porous, soft and chemical absorbing floors like marble; and on hard durable and chemical-resistant floors like ceramic. However, Twister is also effective in upgrading, maintaining and polishing other floor types ranging from ceramic tiles, granite, marble, terrazzo, vinyl, parquet to concrete. Upgrading is a one time process, which involves multiple pads, to bring the floor surface to the optimum level to facilitate easy regular, daily maintenance.For regular maintenance, we use Green pads and water. For high gloss requirements, we use it for dry buffing. We also use Twister outside our standard cleaning routine, for intensive immediate upgrading of large floor expanses. How? Simply ‘wet-run’ Twister Green pads on the scrubbing machine over the surface. This leaves behind a clean and shiny floor. After the wet run, we also take one dry run of the Green pads on ultra-high speed machines to bring out extra shine from the floor. For floor upgrades, we use Twister Floor Conditioner for stone floors in bad condition. It works as a spray buffer with Twister high speed polishing.
Can you tell us, in detail, the different varieties of Twister?
There’s Twister Black that we use for heavy duty cleaning of stained, dirty and raw concrete surfaces. It removes oil, grease, soot and truck marks. Twister Red helps us in heavy-duty cleaning of worn stone floors; Twister White removes tiny scratches from the surface and leaves a clean silky matt; Twister Yellow for the Standard or Intensive Twister method; Twister Green for daily maintenance of the floor. This is ideal for use on all floor surfaces such as stone, terrazzo, polish-coated vinyl and linoleum floors.
What are its notable benefits; in reference to time, cost and the environment?
This product is environmentally friendly because it is chemical-free and we don’t have to use a lot of water when using it. This system saves us about 30 percent of the time and cost that we would otherwise take and incur (respectively) to maintain our floors, using most of the other common systems on the market. Soon after deciding to take on this system, I did not have to change my cleaning methods or equipment, because Twister fits on the majority of all auto scrubbers and polishing machines, and comes in a number of sizes, ranging from 6 to 21 inches. Besides, I don’t have to call in marble polishing experts anymore. Twister provides the easiest way to polish my marble and other floors. It does it all.
