Dhofar wins again at Arab Achievement Awards

Innovative ‘Cut Back’ sustainability project lauded for second year in a row

Oman-based Dhofar Global Trading recently received the ‘Best Green Investment Project’ during the Arab Achievement Awards for the second year in a row, for its ‘Cut Back’ sustainability initiative. The social highlight of the 3rd Arab Investment Summit, which took place in Abu Dhabi, once again recognised the contribution made by Dhofar, hygiene paper and dispenser suppliers to cutting back the amount of paper used by its customers. “We have continued with our commitment to product innovation and customer education over the last 12 months, and through the campaign have helped our clients cut back on their paper consumption by 22 per cent, which not only means cost savings for businesses but effectively reduces the harmful carbon emissions produced in the manufacturing process,” said Chandan Singh, deputy general manager at Dhofar.

Dhofar’s state-of-the-art organic tissue paper dispensers are modified to dispense a single sheet of pre-perforated tissue, which is commonly used across the region from hotel kitchens and offices to mall restrooms and cleaning companies. This year, the company also introduced a second hygiene-focused initiative called the ‘colour magnet,’ with a range of colour-coded tissue paper for specific areas of operation. “Colour coding has always been important in the operational arena and our colour magnet range includes white paper for use in guest areas, with its connotations of purity; blue for kitchen operations, and green for general all-purpose areas,” remarked Singh.

“Environmental awareness practices are at the very core of what we do as a company, and our clients in the region are also keen to incorporate sustainable goals into their operation. Our growing client list, which currently also includes all government mosques in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, Abu Dhabi Inflight Catering, and Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah airports, is testament to the success of the product since it was launched in 2010,” he added.

The Arab Achievement Awards is designed to recognise companies and institutions, which own, manage and create projects that have had a significant impact on the development and enhancement of the Arab region. The Cut Back project was conceived to meet HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) quality approval and launched to the hospitality industry through a series of educational presentations.
